Chahira M. Taymour A. Hassib
Assistant General Manager, Senior Project Manager
ENPPI
I’m a Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University graduate, year 2001, with a French school background. I’ve been part of ENPPI Process Technology Division for more than sixteen years, in a department that is mainly made up of gentlemen and lead by one. I’ve been working all this period in both national and international projects; ranging from pre-conceptual/conceptual studies, FEED & Detailed engineering work, up to EPC activities in projects.
I’m always seeking challenging tasks that will involve Engineering/Management as well as my other qualifications; as proud as I am of being an x- Principal Process/Chemical Engineer, who has worked in EPC projects , with most of Egyptian Oil & Gas sector companies (Asorc, Gasco, Gupco, PTB, GPC, KPC, ...etc.) as well as other Middle East & International companies (Aramco, Adnoc, Sonatrach, SGC, STIR, PDVSA, ...etc.)
The strong technical Process background has paved the way for the next business assignments; where during 2018, I was assigned as a PMC member for Bapetco/Shell taskforce. The duties of a client representative/project management consultancy (PMC) is mainly coordinating & following up the various engineering jobs between client (Bapetco/Shell) and EnppI, as well as supporting the client team in reviewing and endorsing the deliverables produced by other engineering firms.
Moreover, later this year, I shifted from the technical side to the managerial side, where I worked under the umbrella of Project Management Division, also in Enppi, with clients such as PhPCo, Gasco & Norpetco.
And more recently, I'm currently leading both Engineering & Management activities for Asorc project (Upgrade of existing units).
Part of the job is to handle different project teams in various projects to ensure successful project completion, as well as develop the project strategies to overcome any delays or force majeure, such as client additional requirements or lack of certain information that would hinder the project progress.
Moreover, I’m responsible for coordinating with all departments to ensure the projects quality requirements are implemented by all personnel. I have directed the planning and development of projects scope, procedures, and schedules, through various meetings with client and technical teams, up to project execution monitoring and follow-up. And finally prepare various levels of progress reports for internal and external submission.
I’m always looking for an opportunity that will explore my potential to the maximum and will add to my gained experience as well. I’m always targeting to be an active employee who is accredited for her influence and her investment in other people creating active but friendly environment, by giving symbolic simple presents whenever possible, e.g. upon completion of tasks, or an urgent feedback that was received on a short notice, by offering a large bar of chocolate, and personally acknowledging the effort, and motivating others to follow the same footsteps so they would get their bar of chocolate.
I’m always looking for a healthy working place, if I don’t find it, I try to create one; for me and others. I’m keen to create a pleasant working place for all of us; I try to get use of certain events when; I highlight and spread the joy by giving each one a Ramadan lantern at the beginning of Holy month, a note book, a pen or a stress ball when it’s back to school time, hanging motivational notes for all to read on my cell…etc.
Additionally, throughout my long years in the company, I have personally faced several challenges, one of the heaviest on my heart is the evaluation process & the appraisal cycle each year.
Being familiar with the constraints faced each year by process engineers in my old department, which have led to continuous dissatisfaction, and even depression of some members.
I took an initiative within my department, to introduce a scoring game based on counting work-related tasks, and teamwork activities, where all members score for themselves based on their own tasks, and their contribution with other team members with respect to learning, exchanging “lessons learned” and interpersonal skills, in a quantitative manner (specific set of points per task/activity).
I also prepared an initiative to the company top management related to ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) framework definition & implementation, to be able to cope with future & expected Egyptian new policies.
Nevertheless, I have invested in myself, in diverse domains; believing in continual learning & growth, as well as gaining experiences in this booming era of abundant information and tutoring, I became a certified Mars-Venus Business coach in addition to certified Mars-Venus Life coach, NLP Practitioner, Certified ESLESCA TOT, and a long list of other technical/non-technical courses, that I have attended, starting with joining a six-months IT scholarship, sponsored by IBM & Egyptian Ministry of Communication, right after university graduation. This scholarship has broadened my spectrum of expertise & taught me how to move within any unfamiliar areas.
Furthermore, I was selected to join Ministry of Petroleum Talent Program, Middle Management, 1st wave, sponsored by American Chamber in Egypt (AmCham), which has added to my managerial & strategic skills more that I would’ve wished for.
I believe my learning curve has added to both my personal & technical skills and has permitted me to work within new or unfamiliar territories with exceptional interpersonal skills, opening doors to all new opportunities.
