The North Africa and East Mediterranean region is poised for an increase in gas focussed exploration, licensing, and development activity. The need for energy security, sustainability, and supply diversification is driving this and the potential for increased gas production and exports from the region is significant.
Gas production in the North Africa and East Med region will be around 17 Bcf/d in 2024. The two main gas producing countries are Algeria, and Egypt. The countries are in contrasting positions at the moment. Algeria’s gas production and exports have increased in recent years, while Egypt’s gas production is currently in decline and exports have been halted.
