Egypt intends to become the world centre of carbon-free green hydrogen production by 2030, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Monday.

Green hydrogen is produced through water electrolysis-by heating the water with electricity, which is generated using renewable energy sources like water, solar, wind, or other types of renewable energy, making the whole process carbon-free. Some experts believe that offshore wind power plants are the best option for green hydrogen production.

"We are aiming to make Egypt a world centre of green hydrogen production by 2030," Madbouly told the parliament.

Last week, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi swore in a new cabinet. Madbouly remained at the head, although the reshuffle included the nomination of over 20 new ministers, including the Foreign Affairs and Defence portfolios, as well as the inauguration of the new Ministry of Investment.
